Traditional Swedish Ham and Macaroni Bake

Method

1. 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) and grease an ovenproof baking dish with butter.
2. 2Boil macaroni in lightly salted water for about 7-8 minutes until just tender, then drain thoroughly.
3. 3Cut the ham into small even cubes. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg.
4. 4Combine the cooked macaroni, diced ham, and half of the grated cheese, then transfer the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
5. 5Pour the egg and milk mixture over the macaroni so it coats everything evenly, then sprinkle the remaining grated cheese over the top.
6. 6Bake in the center of the oven for 25-30 minutes until the egg custard is fully set and the cheese top is bubbling and golden brown.
